Zimbabwe and especially Victoria Falls airport is very familiarised with firearms and foreign hunters. This doesn't exempt you from preparing in advance and having everything ready for a hassle-free experience.
We will send you ahead of time an invitation letter for which we need your rifle serial number, brand/model, caliber, and dates of arrival and departure.
First, make sure you get your 4457 Form. We recommend getting a 4457 Form also for the scopes. This you can get at any airport. This document you must keep always so that you can show it to your airline when you depart as well as the customs agent as proof of ownership.
Here you can download the 4457 Form:

Last but not least, contact your airline and request them to send you a written letter stating that your firearm is accepted on your flight. You must repeat this task with every airline on your itinerary. This you must do at least 1 month before departure. Carry with you a hard copy of these confirmations.
Visas and gun permits are issued at your arrival airport. Transiting through other countries en route to Zimbabwe is the main complicating factor. If transiting through South Africa, it is best to remain in transit before boarding a plane for Zimbabwe. If you must overnight in South Africa, you must comply with South Africa’s Firearm importation procedures. The best routes through Europe to minimize your firearm hassles are with KLM through Amsterdam or with Swissair through Zurich. Both of these airlines fly to Johannesburg, where you can catch a flight to your destination in Zimbabwe. A good alternative is to fly with Qatar Airways.
Upon Arriving in Zimbabwe, you will first purchase an Entry Visa Stamp for $30 US ($50 if you pick the Zambia-Zimbabwe UNIVISA). Then you get your passport stamped. You will collect your luggage and then fill out your firearms permit. You will need your firearm serial numbers for this, so keep them handy. They may look over your firearms and ammunition, but you should be on your way shortly. When leaving, you will be charged a $20 exit fee, but this is normally included in the airfare ticket costs.
